MAGA Donor Donates Mega Bucks to Trump-driven Voter-suppression Effort, Prop 39
MAGA Billionaire Richard Uihlein Who Donated $59 Million Dollars to the Trump 2024 Alone, Contributes $6.5 Million to Block the Vote Act
SACRAMENTO – Californians for Voting Rights, the campaign committee opposing the Trump-driven voter suppression initiative (Proposition 39) released the following statement after after learning that Trump mega donor Richard Uihlein donated $6.5 million to Trump’s Block the Vote Act (Proposition 39):
“Trump mega donor Richard Uihlein has given California voters 6.5 million reasons to say ‘no’ to Prop 39,” said Tenoch Flores spokesperson for the “NO on Prop 39” campaign. “Prop 39 is designed to make voting harder, turns voters into easy targets for identity theft by requiring that voters write the last four digits of a personal ID with their return envelope, and creates new avenues for rejecting valid mail ballots. MAGA billionaires are behind this effort to make voting harder, riskier and more expensive, and Californians must defeat their power grab by voting ‘NO on Prop 39.’”
Background
Under Prop 39, Californians who vote by mail — over 80% of voters in the state — would have to include a personal ID number on their ballot envelope that would have to exactly match state records, making them easy targets for identity theft and increasing the rejection of valid ballots. Those voting in person would be required to show a government issued ID. That would create long lines at polls and increase the risk of citizens being turned away. Meanwhile, name changes, frequent moves, and housing instability create additional ID traps for eligible voters. Creating all of these new voting barriers in Prop 39 would cost California taxpayers hundreds of millions every year.
